How To Make A Website Standout

When visiting a website the first thing you think is usually either, “Pretty good website, got everything I wanted” or “what an useless site, I can’t even use it or find what I need”. A company website is fundamental to business, it is a necessity. Therefore you need to do it right. There are some simple steps you should use when creating and designing a website such as; (Webinsation, 2014)

  • Good use of whitespace. Whitespace might seem like a waste of space to some people but its not. A website without the correct use of white space looks awful. Whitespace makes the website look more professional and organised, it is also aesthetically pleasing to the consumer. Take a look at these two examples and decide for yourself which is better. (Enavu, 2015)

  • Use nice typography. The use of nice clear typography in websites is also effective. When a user is looking for something online they want to find that one thing, not a multiple of other things, so in clear type show what they are looking for in just a sentence or two, again see these two examples. (Boag P, 2009)

  • Don’t misuse customers patience. When you get a customer onto your website the idea is to keep them there for as long as possible in the hope they will buy something or apply to your service or whatever it is you do. So when you get them on don’t have the first thing they see or the first thing they have to do as being a tiresome survey or signup page. This will either anger the user or just make them choose a different page. (Friedman, V, 2008)
